Ever since I personally met Alexandra Pickett in 2010, I knew I wanted to work more closely with her and her team. The first step was to take the graduate course she taught through SUNY Albany’s Education department. The next step was to land an internship at SLN. I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to become an intern in the Fall of 2013. Since I live on Long Island, I felt extremely lucky to be offered a remote internship opportunity. Some of the main components of my internship, and the most rewarding were being involved in the faculty training process with both Dan and Rob at FIT, working inside the ID Certification courses, having deep conversations with Rob about instructional design principles and strategies, and attending an instructional design conference run by NERCOMP. I do wish I had my hands in more, but that could be because I know how many interesting projects SLN is involved in, and I wanted to experience it all.

Alex was instrumental facilitating connections that led to my Maritime instructional designer position, and supported my candidacy for the instructional designer role at St. John’s.

I highly recommend anyone in the CDIT program or interested in instructional design, apply for the SLN internship. The team is very knowledgable and is always ready to share that knowledge. And because of their wide scope, working with a huge section of SUNY College’s, any intern will have a diverse learning experience.  If you would like to read more about my internship experience you can view my blog here, http://slninternship.blogspot.com

Thanks again Rob, Dan, Diane, Erin, and Alex for the opportunity.
