SUNY Online Teaching Ambassador 2025: SUNY Poly – Kathleen Marollo

Dr. Kathleen Marollo DNP, ANP-BC, FNP-BC, is a part-time lecturer in the College of Health Sciences at SUNY Polytechnic Institute in Utica, N.Y in the Family Nurse Practitioner Program. She received her RN degree from Crouse Irving Memorial School of Nursing in Syracuse NY (1979), Bachelor of Science from Utica College of Syracuse University (1997), Master of Science, as an Adult Nurse Practitioner from SUNYIT (2001), Family Nurse Practitioner from SUNYIT (2014), and Doctor of Nursing Practice from Chamberlain College of Nursing (2017). She is board certified as both an adult and family nurse practitioner.

She has 12 years of teaching experience in the classroom and online and over 40 years of experience in the clinical setting. Her clinical experience has been in primary care and cardiology. She enjoys bringing real-life experiences to her classes, which not only the students enjoy, but also can assist students with assimilating classroom material to clinical situations. 

She has experience in developing courses for up to 100 students in a class and integrating various forms of learning which leads to improved student engagement. Kathy is currently working towards a certification in simulation. 

I started teaching online in the SUNY Poly nurse practitioner program over 10 years ago and have used three management learning systems. Most nursing students work full or part time besides trying to keep a work/life/balance while attending school.  Online learning provides students with the opportunity and flexibility to continue their education while tending to other obligations. I enjoy trying to integrate a variety of forms of teaching using simulation, case studies, and innovative assignments for student engagement. I use student evaluations to revise assignments and improve courses each semester. As an online educator there is something to learn daily!
