SUNY Online Teaching Ambassador 2025: Alfred State – Tony Aquilina

Alfred State College
Tony Aquilina is an Assistant Professor of Sport Management at Alfred State College. Prior to joining Alfred State in the Fall of 2022, Tony served at Alfred University as the Associate Director of Athletics from 2017-2022. From that role, he brings relevant sport industry experience into the classroom. Prior to Alfred University, Tony spent time as Assistant Athletic Director at Misericordia University in Dallas, PA. He has a Master’s Degree in Sports Management and Media from Ithaca College, and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Management and Communications from SUNY Cortland in 2011, while working the New York Jets training camp hosted at the college.
As an instructor, I focus on creating an interactive learning environment where students apply theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios. Drawing from my experience in athletics management, I use practical examples to engage students and encourage active collaboration.
In the online classroom, I emphasize critical thinking, problem-solving, and real-world applications. By incorporating integrated online simulations, case studies, and video discussions, I prepare students for the challenges they will face in the field. The Online Learning Center at Alfred State is an invaluable resource, supporting both instructors and students with tools and technologies that enhance learning experiences.
While teaching online provides flexibility, I ensure the virtual classroom is just as engaging and supportive as an in-person setting. My goal is to deliver an enriching experience that prepares students for success in the dynamic sports management field.
