SUNY Online Teaching Ambassador 2025: FIT – Isabella Bertoletti

Isabella Bertoletti is a Professor of Italian and Chair of the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures at FIT, SUNY. She teaches a diverse range of courses spanning film, cultural studies, literature, and the Italian language. Her scholarly research encompasses Medieval and Renaissance literature, Italian cinema, psychoanalysis, the history of the Italian language, and Italian feminism. In addition to her academic contributions, she has translated the works of prominent Italian political philosophers, including Paolo Virno, Antonio Negri, and Christian Marazzi, for MIT Press.

A dedicated advocate for faculty, Professor Bertoletti serves as Vice President for Faculty for the UCE of FIT and is an active member of International PEN. She is also a passionate champion of online education, emphasizing the importance of adaptability, creativity, and student-centered engagement in virtual learning. She believes that, when grounded in rigorous academic standards and enriched by innovative digital tools, online teaching fosters inclusivity and accessibility, ensuring a high-quality educational experience for students from diverse backgrounds. She values FIT’s ongoing commitment to equipping faculty with the resources, training, and recognition necessary to sustain excellence in online instruction.
