Dr. Emily Riddle is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Human Ecology at SUNY Oneonta. She has been teaching courses in the Nutrition & Dietetics area since the fall of 2018. She teaches online courses each semester, including summer and winter sessions, to support both the undergraduate and graduate accredited dietetics programs. She also teaches face to face during spring and fall semesters. Emily has completed the Online Teaching Certification programs offered at SUNY Oneonta and enjoys integrating new technology tools into her classrooms both in person and online. In 2023, Dr. Riddle co-authored a review of distance education in nutrition and dietetics education over the past 30 years in the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Dr. Riddle is honored to be presented with the Ambassador recognition for online learning and looks forward to continued growth and networking in the online community.

It is important to differentiate the rapid and unexpected transition to online education seen during the COVID-19 pandemic from intentional, well-planned and well-supported online education.  In an intentional online learning environment, instructors can cultivate a well-connected community of learners who regularly interact with both the instructor and each other.  In my online classrooms, I strive to foster an environment that emphasizes timely and personalized instructor feedback to each learner while providing opportunities for students to also connect with and learn from one another.
