SUNY Online Teaching Ambassador 2025: Clinton – Christina Cone

Clinton Community College
Christina Q. Cone is an Adjunct Instructor in Biology and Chemistry as well as a Paraprofessional Tutor in Math and Science at Clinton Community College. She has been at CCC since 2018, teaching both on-campus and online courses. She is completing the Instructional Design Certificate through the SUNY Center for Professional Development (CPD) this February. She has Master’s Degrees in Biochemistry (M.S., University of Saint Joseph) and Chemistry Education (Ed.M., University at Buffalo), and a B.A. in Chemistry (New Paltz).
I am proud and honored to be a part of the SUNY Online Teaching Community. We are able to offer courses and degree options to students with a variety of needs and situations. I completed my Biochemistry degree online, which allowed me to continue my education while also being home to raise my children. Online education creates opportunities for everyone, expanding access to a wider population than ever before. I feel fortunate that technology has advanced to the point where I can provide students with an experience that adheres to my teaching philosophies of both “standing on the shoulders of giants” (Newton) and “learn[ing] by doing” (Aristotle). We are able to use the available tools to build an informational foundation upon which to scaffold as well as create at-home, hands-on, and safe laboratory activities for students to experience as active participants. Thus, there is no sacrifice in any of our course objectives, and students are assured they are mastering the scientific skills needed to progress in their continuing educational and career journeys just as they would if they had attended classes on campus.
