- Working to understand how COTE can support Quantway/Statway online course development.
- Working to understand how COTE can support OER activities. Erin Maney is now working with SUNY OER Services 20% of her time.
- Working on collecting metrics across the COTE pillars to show impact.
- Working on getting an intern to assist with a number of projects.
- Working with the CPD on a COTE programs brochure.
- COTE webpages Refresh: We have reviewed the main pillar webpages of the Open SUNY COTE site, and have made good progress. Next steps will be: Updating/refreshing content, thinking about navigation, ease of use, functionality, consistency, consolidation, and the end user
- Badging System:
- Published 10 new badges since April. Including Using Medium Effectively, ID certificate badges.
- Working on OSCQR – related badges.
- Planning to develop a video to explain our badging initiative.
- We have published 45 badges in the membership, professional development, and community engagement categories.
- Working on backlog of certificates and badges for workshops.
- A total of 2,044 badges have been issued.
- 802 badges have been accepted/claimed.
- 89% of these badges were shared to LinkedIn profiles.
4 Open SUNY COTE Pillars:
- Summer 2017 content development activities initiated, in progress:
- Development of course on advanced uses of interactive tools.
- Researching development of a “crash course” for adjuncts, and those new to online teaching and inheriting an already developed course. Possibly collaborating with Stony Brook. Also, reviewing UCF TopKit short course.
- Preview of the Interested in Online Teaching? And Online Faculty Readiness pre-course activities.
- Fall 2017 Offerings
- Campus needs analysis and outreach plan are in progress being led by Anne Reed, Open SUNY COTE program manager. Since April 2017. interviews at 20 SUNY campuses have been conducted, data collected, and analysis has begun.
- Online Courses for Observation: Working on collecting a new cohort of courses for observation. Nomination process has been updated and we are seeking nominations.
- Partnership with OLC:
- Open SUNY COTE’s online instructional designer certificate program through the OLC Institute began a second offering of the program in July.
- 4th Annual Open SUNY COTE Summit will be held February 28-March 2, 2018 at the SUNY Global Center in NYC, NY.
- The NUTN board will be attending and participating in the summit again this year.
- Promoting TOPR call for proposals (CFP) to COTE Community and targeted outreach to EP Awards submitters – TOPR CFP closes September 15th.
- Working on evaluating, updating, and improving regular COTE processes, procedures (partnerships, contacts, communications, memberships, chats, etc.)
- We have updated our process and verified key contacts for partnerships (NMC/OLC/NUTN) and ID teams.
- Fellow Chats – Outreach and scheduling has begun for Fall 2017 Fellow Chats and a review of the Fellow chat production process has led us to consolidate some of the logistics to make the process to be conducted more efficiently and effectively.
- We are continuing to identify Fellows’ campus roles. (41 campuses have been completed).
- Open SUNY Fellows
- 1,917 Open SUNY Fellows have joined COTE a 2% increase since April 2017 – a 4% increase for the year to date:
- 841 – Interested in online-enabled education
- 656 – Experienced online practitioner
- 55 – Expert instructional designer
- 50 – Exemplar, coach, and mentor
- 29 – Innovator and/or researcher
- 286 – Friends of SUNY
- 1,917 Open SUNY Fellows have joined COTE a 2% increase since April 2017 – a 4% increase for the year to date:

- 1,038 members a 3% increase since April 2017 – 7% increase for the year to date.
- 43 discussion groups.
- And various discussions.
- The monthly COTE Community Call features updates from pillars of COTE and pedagogically-focused research presentations and campus showcases.
- Average about 31 participants each month (April – July). No call was held in July due to summer schedules.

- Short micro-learning videos have been published and are being added to the resource.
- We are seeking campus examples to showcase with the OSCQR standards and

- Met with group from WeLearn (http://www.welearn.cl) in Chile interested in OSCQR.
- Reviewed/reviewing Umass, CU, Boise State and ID#4 feedback for OSCQR improvements.
- Developing plan to collect OSCQR reviewed courses from campuses and what it means to be an OSCQR reviewed course.

Longitudinal project:
- Completed data collection for Fall 2016 (4553 responses) and Spring 2017 (4355 responses).
- Spring 2017 student survey report was disseminated in July.
- Made live surveys available to campus stakeholders. (As data was collected they could view results.)
Current Focused Research projects underway:
- On faculty attitudes on online teaching – in progress.
- Currently working on new analysis of online learners in Community Colleges to better understand different outcomes (lower performance of at risk students).
- Working on tying SUNY survey data to BI data to better understand connections between instruction, social dimensions, self regulation and drop out, persistence, grades, degree completion and other metrics of success.
Current Goals:
- Promote and recognize innovation and scholarship in online teaching and learning across the system to more broadly engage & support researchers interested in online teaching and learning research.
Strategies:
- Developing a COTE Research Fellow program.
- Developing a plan to more systematically capture and showcase presentations and awards regarding teaching and learning across the system.
- Contribute to support and showcase scholarly work and our collective understanding how people teach and learn well online.
Strategies:
- Working on a plan to regularly and systematically capture and showcase publications regarding online teaching and learning across the system.
- Increase awareness of and participation in our COTE-supported online-related research.
Strategies:
- Developing a plan to disseminate research results more broadly, consistently, and in a timely way.
- Working on a plan to make the aggregate reports more useful and meaningful to campuses.
