COTE Report – April 2016

This report provides an update on Open SUNY COTE activities through April 2016.

GENERAL Initiatives

  • Migration is an ongoing commitment and effort – 2012-2017 provided at no cost to SLN campuses migrating from ANGEL.
  • Legacy materials – review, revision, adaptation of SLN legacy materials is an ongoing effort.
  • Digital DNA Refresh will assist us in reviewing and refining priorities and designing more flexible ways for campuses to pay for COTE supports and services.
    • Based on the recommendations of the Open SUNY Metrics work group, we are working on an impact survey to get a sense of success and information to inform continuous improvements.
  • Working Badging Design Group – we continue to make progress in the design of a comprehensive Badging System that provides a framework for our Online Competency Development program to recognize participation, achievement, engagement, and online competency development.
    • Using the Credly: https://credly.com/u/opensunycote
    • We have published 29 badges in the professional development and community engagement categories.
    • 1,600 badges have been issued – 9% have been shared in Facebook, 91% shared in LinkedIn. 39K + views of badges.

Online Competency Development

  • Spring 2016 COTE Professional Development
  • Spring 2016 Report
    • Partnership with UCF/BlendKit2016 MOOC – coordinating local campus cohorts and COTE cohort, support materials and engagement toolkit.
      • 5 local cohorts participated (Farmingdale, North Country, Upstate, Empire State, Brockport), 25 enrolled in COTE cohort, which included 9 participants from Niagara.
    • 6 – Review your Online Course with the OSCQR
    • 9 – Become an OSCQR Online Course Reviewer – webinar
    • 6 – Introduction to OERs – facilitated
    • 133 – Quality by Design (QbD) online ITTG funded course/COTE collaboration.
    • 26 – registered (12 at FLCC and 14 at FIT) for N20L: Designing an Online Course & Preparing to Teach Online for those New to Online Learning
  • Priorities for Summer 2016 Development Activities (possible new development)
    • Fundamentals in Online Learning for those interested in online teaching and learning – self paced
    • Crash course in online teaching for adjuncts.
    • Effective Online Teaching and Instructional Design with the Community of Inquiry model (Possible collaboration with TOEP and others on this.)
  • Possible partnership with OLC on the ID certificate program.
  • We have begun using a CRM to better track faculty’s competency development history. This will help us better track competency development and badging activities.

  • A new Service Level Agreement (SLA) and catalog of offerings was developed and disseminated in April 2016. A business model was developed that helps us better predict our costs and ensure a sustainable operation. We have identified additional programing to offer during 2016/17, and have begun the process of collaborating with others on developing the content.

Community of Practice

  • New Media Consortium (NMC) membership has been renegotiated from / updated from SLN to Open SUNY COTE to provide access and a membership in NMC to one OS COTE Fellow at each campus (total 75 members).

Course SupportsOSCQR

  • Working with 38 campuses.
    • We have supported the installation of 23 OSCQR campus dashboards.
    • 350+ self-assessment rubrics have been generated.
    • We have worked to improve OSCQR and launch a new version of the rubric. The new rubric will have integrated accessibility standards and be more extensible for standards dealing with other topics. We are working with FACT2 task groups to develop standards relating to mobile learning, OER, and labs.
  • Continuing to explore possible Collaboration with OLC on their adoption of OSCQR.
