Jamie Rotter has worked his entire culinary career in New York State. Rotter is a graduate of SUNY Delhi, where he earned his A.A.S. in Restaurant Management and B.B.A. in Hospitality Management. He also holds an M.S. in Service Management from RIT. Rotter has held certifications as a Certified Executive Chef and Certified Chef de Cuisine through the American Culinary Federation. In 2008, Chef Rotter received the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Faculty Service. He is currently the Culinary Arts Program Coordinator at FLCC and teaches public classes at the New York Kitchen.
Jamie’s foray into online education really began at FLCC when he began to use the Blackboard LMS to post lecture notes and other materials. From there, He began to use Blackboard as a testing and assessment tool while also receiving training to teach fully online. His lecture courses are now hybrid where lectures are recorded, and materials created are formatted to help students with disabilities to be successful as well as providing an engaging educational experience. He has made this transition to increase equitable access to coursework as well as to provide a stronger base for those who work with students with disabilities to be able to work more closely with course materials to help increase successful outcomes. Chef Rotter does his best to make sure that while students can be successful in remote learning situations, that voice and design help to also connect his students with both individual courses and the program as a whole.
