SUNY Online Teaching Ambassador 2023: Alfred – Travis Matteson

Travis W. Matteson, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of English and Humanities at Alfred State College. He holds a Ph.D. in English from the University at Buffalo, with a focus on new media and poetics. At Alfred State, Dr. Matteson teaches technical and new media writing in seated and online formats, which will be included in Alfred State’s new Bachelor of Science program in Technical Communication and Emergent Media beginning in August 2023.

In my online writing classes, I focus on the potential of digital technologies for advocacy and civic engagement. I enjoy working with students to better understand not only how to conform to the communication constraints of online platforms, but also how to resist the default and create new possibilities for ethical communication online.
