Open SUNY Online Teaching Ambassador 2020: Buffalo – Alex Reid

Alex Reid is an Associate Professor of English at the University at Buffalo where he studies digital rhetoric. He is the author of The Two Virtuals: New Media and Composition and the co-editor of Design Discourse: Composing and Revising Professional Writing Programs. His works appear in Enculturation, Computers and Composition, Karios, and other journals and essay collections, and he blogs at Digital Digs. He taught his first online course in 1998 and has gone on to teach many synchronous and asynchronous online and hybrid courses involving a range of platforms and applications: blogs, wikis, iTunes U, Second Life, and others. His research and teaching both address the rhetorical and compositional challenges and opportunities of communicating in emerging media. As such, his classes not only employ online environments as platforms for learning but also ask students to investigate and experiment with digital composing from website and infographics to podcasting and video.
