Open SUNY Online Teaching Ambassador 2017 – Dutchess: Seemi Ahmad

Seemi Ahmad is a professor of economics at Dutchess Community College.

I was one of the early adopters of SUNY’s online initiative and started teaching online economics classes at Dutchess Community College over 15 years ago. I took online classes myself and the State University of New York, SLN, did a great job in training us for this new platform which used Lotus Notes! We have come a long way from there!

I have been able to teach students who otherwise would not have the time to be a college student. The discussions and interactions among the students have been phenomenal and many times better than my face-to-face classes. The course itself has evolved as we used Quality Matters certification and looked at our courses critically. It is an honor to be a teaching ambassador and I will keep striving to make this platform more accessible and offer courses of exceptional quality to our students.
