Paul M. Kump, Ph.D., is Assistant Professor of Engineering at SUNY Maritime College.
I am Professor Kump, originally from Chicago, and I teach electrical and computer engineering for SUNY Maritime. In the beginning of the Spring 2016 semester, I had been given the opportunity to teach our engineering department’s inaugural online course, an introduction to computer programming for engineering students of all disciplines. If there was ever a course that should be online, it is this one. The course, which had over 120 students enrolled, was a success, with several students expressing their surprise to me that they could learn so much from an online course.
Computing is a hobby of mine. I have written nuclear material detection algorithms for the U.S. government, crime prediction software for the Chicago Police Department, and my own personal stock market prediction software. The latter is a work in progress, and I hope to someday have the software automatically trading for me and emailing me diagnostics. I enjoy typing in LaTex and building websites.
