SUNY Online Teaching Ambassador 2023: Rockland – Peter Marino

Peter Marino is a Lecturer of Psychology at SUNY Rockland Community College. In addition to courses in psychology, Peter teaches multicultural studies and first year seminars as well as Certified Addiction and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) classes.

I am truly honored to be recognized as an online teaching ambassador for my developing and facilitating of online higher education. It has been my great pleasure to serve as mentor to fellow instructors as they sought to build their online classrooms, especially amidst the shift to remote instruction. Repetition, and some very helpful feedback along the way, has helped hone my ability for designing active and engaging lessons that fit into any online learning platform. Incorporating evidence-based online teaching practices has strengthened both the teaching and learning experience, whether synchronous, asynchronous, or hybrid-based instruction. Training and reflection has equipped me with a structure for strategically adding or adapting new practices to my repertoire of online learning exercises. While much has been achieved, I know there is still always room for improvement and more to be discovered through continued self-assessment and collaboration.
