Open SUNY Online Teaching Ambassador 2019: Rockland – Cynthia Hayden
Cynthia Hayden is a 1984 Rockland Community College nursing graduate. She has come full circle from where her nursing education began by becoming an instructor at the college. As a Registered Nurse she has worked on respiratory units and intensive care. Her passion as a hospital nurse will always be respiratory. It is there that she began her career as a nurse and where she found the greatest amount of satisfaction in rendering patient care.
Ms. Hayden’s advanced education was online. She thanks her first online course instructor for the compassion, caring and patience she showed her as she went through her first online class. The instructor became a role model and ignited her passion and enthusiasm for online education.
She is married with five grown children, three grandchildren and a new grandson on his way.
“My goal as an online educator is to promote an environment that supports the independent online learner with guidance and learning experiences that reach all learning types. Creating an online environment that cultivates and promotes self-discipline and commitment for the online learner creates a positive online experience. I have created an online Dimensional Analysis course for nursing calculations. In this course have incorporated various learning experiences to accommodate the different learning styles of the students.”
“My philosophy as an online educator is to be accessible, accommodating to individual needs and to provide prompt individual feedback to the online learner. I approach my online course with enthusiasm, dedication and commitment. At the end of the course I leave my students knowing I have provided a positive structured online learning experience.”
