Open SUNY Online Teaching Ambassador 2018 – Stony Brook: Ramiro Malaga Ortega

Ramiro Malaga Ortega

Ramiro Malaga Ortega is a Ph.D. candidate in Economics at Stony Brook University working on his dissertation. His research focuses on analyzing the relationship between depression, family structure, and family income. His fields of interest include Health Economics, Family Economics, and Corporate Finance. He has taught six online courses since the Winter 2016, mostly in Health Economics. He was the recipient of the William Dawes Teaching Award for outstanding and overall best performance by an instructor in the Department of Economics at Stony Brook University in 2015 and the “2016 Summer Online Teaching Initiative” Grant.

I consider that teaching in universities will face significant challenges due to the online education and artificial intelligence; and instructors, students, and institutions need to be ready to adapt to the new teaching environment.
