Online teaching is ever evolving. In 2007, when I began teaching an online course, I was the first to teach an undergraduate online course in my department and now there are many online courses. Over the past decade, there has been huge growth in the number of online offerings nationwide. It is important for online instructors to understand the different needs of online learners and how to most effectively instruct them.
