Alisia Chase

Alisia Chase is an Associate Professor of Art History and Visual Culture at the College at Brockport.

I am currently the sole Historian of Art and Visual Culture at the College at Brockport, where I teach face to face classes in World Art, Women in Art, Modernism, Comics and Graphic Novels, and many other topics. I  was awarded the SUNY Chancellor’s award for Excellence in Teaching in 2009, and our campus’ Outstanding Advisor Award in 2006. I also teach graduate student seminars in Media Culture and Contemporary Art at the Visual Studies Workshop, and serve as an Associate Faculty member in our Women and Gender Studies program.

I have been offering both World Art I and II in an online format since the summer of 2011, and my courses are consistently over-enrolled, a fact I attribute to the increasingly popularity of this format, as well as my engaged teaching style. Even if virtually, I maintain a “classroom” presence so my students know that I am there to help. Teaching online helps me fulfill my personal commitment to adult and working students, as the asynchronous format allows them to fit learning into their busy lives. I knew the online format was going to be both a challenge and a teaching game-changer when one of my non-traditional learners said they liked to watch my lectures while she did the dishes and ran on the treadmill!
