SUNY Online Teaching Ambassador 2022: Monroe – Donna Burke
Donna Burke began her career at Monroe Community College (MCC) in 1995 as an admissions counselor. Throughout her 27 years at MCC, she has a held a number of positions working with students and administration. She began teaching College Orientation and Success Strategies as an adjunct instructor in 2008. She recently fulfilled her dream of becoming a full-time teaching faculty member in 2020.
Donna received her Bachelors of Science Degree in Psychology from SUNY Cortland in 1990 and her Masters in Education in Student Personnel Administration with a concentration in College Student Counseling in 1993 from Teachers College, Columbia University.
Her interests include camping, hiking, biking, swimming and pretty much anything with an “ing” on the end! A number of years ago, her life changed dramatically when she began to incorporate mindfulness practices such as meditation into her daily life, including her teaching. Much of her work today reflects her personal journey and her willingness to share this wonderful practice.
She credits her love of online learning to MCC’s Virtual Campus staff and her colleagues’ mentorship. She approaches her course design and implementation as a collaborative journey she takes every semester with her students.
