Open SUNY Online Teaching Ambassador 2017 – Albany: Trudy Walp
Trudy Walp recently retired as a literacy specialist after 35 years of public school teaching. She is currently the Online Program Manager & Lecturer in the Department of Literacy Teaching and Learning at the University at Albany. Trudy has been teaching fully online graduate courses for 15 years at the University at Albany. Her research and teaching interests include approaches to integrated literacy instruction and effective instructional practices for young learners experiencing difficulties in their literacy development. She is the recipient of the 2005 “Excellence in Teaching Award” from the School of Education at the University at Albany. She is a past co-recipient of the New York State Reading Association’s “Outstanding Research Award.”
As the Online Program Manager, my support for students ranges from completion of the application process for one of the three Master’s degree programs offered by the Department of Literacy Teaching and Learning through the successful completion of their degree. While my primary responsibilities include advising all students matriculated in the fully online programs and developing online course offering schedules, I most enjoy teaching courses in the online Master’s programs.
