Open SUNY Online Teaching Ambassador 2016 – Alfred State: Danielle R Green

Danielle R. Green has been teaching online at Alfred State College since 2011. Danielle earned her associate degree in court and real-time reporting and a bachelor’s degree in technology management from Alfred State, and an MBA from SUNY Oswego. Before her tenure at Alfred, she worked for eight years as a judicial reporter, recording depositions, parole hearings, parole boards, worker’s compensation trials, and public hearings, as well as doing some CART work for the hearing impaired. Green, an Assistant Professor at Alfred State College, teaches both lower- and upper-level court reporting classes, including theory, speed building, and procedures for reporters and captioners, and upper-level business courses including Business Ethics and Organizational Behavior.

Online instructors must be passionate in their field and the educational delivery mode, and consistently seek out new knowledge in relation to online learning to continuously improve how we deliver education around the globe. Setting clear expectations, being available, and encouraging online students is paramount to student success online. Active learning is one of the keys to success in the online classroom. Embracing new techniques and technologies, as well as encouraging learners, is instrumental to a positive and successful learning experience.
