As a highly motivated nurse, I have always had a passion for clinical research to improve patient outcomes and nursing satisfaction. My unique experiences as a clinical nurse leader (CNL) and registered nurse scientist afforded me the opportunity to experience first-hand the gaps in the understanding of clinical research at the bedside from the nurses’ perspectives. It became evident to me that to empower frontline staff to implement evidence-based practice and research; the nurses need to have a clear understanding of the different research and evidence-based paradigms and methods available. My drive to improve patient care and outcomes through research and evidence-based practice motivated my transition to becoming more involved in nursing education. I continuously adapt online curricula that offer clarity, experiential and problem-based learning, while also being hands-on, meaningful, and purposeful to the nurse. I consider these essential in bridging the gap between knowledge and actual nursing practice.
