Open SUNY Online Teaching Ambassador 2019: Corning – Rosemary Anthony

Rosemary Anthony, BSN, MSE, RN transitioned into academics at SUNY Corning Community College after a very successful nursing career. In her former roles as Senior Director of Population Health, and System Clinical Director for Telemedicine for a local health system, Rosemary utilized technology and distance learning to bring much needed heath care and education to rural populations.  Today she enjoys integrating technology into all of her Community and Public Health Education courses and believes providing online classes greatly  excites and engages students, and broadens their learning experience.

Online courses provide students with valuable skills that will enhance their success in future careers. These include essential computer skills, self-directed learning, research, critical thinking, communication, collaboration and more! Being able to integrate popular quizzing and polling tools, educational videos, collaborative group project Software, and forums for discussion, creates an environment that promotes interactive and applied learning. Teaching online  broadens the learning experience for students, because it provides an opportunity for them to learn from, and network with, experts from around the world!  This is especially useful in my Global Health classes! 

Online courses also help with student recruitment and retention because of the flexibility it provides. Because of life circumstances, a few of my students would not have been able to complete their degrees if not for online classes. For individuals who want to pursue an education but have limited time to attend classes, online courses are an excellent option.

I thoroughly enjoy teaching online classes. “The future is now”, and it is very rewarding to be a part of the ever-expanding field of technology in learning.
