01:19:13 From Robert Piorkowski:   To ensure consistent participation…

“You must respond to the initial prompt within the first 2 days of the discussion”

“You must respond to at least three students’ posts within the first 6 days of the discussion”

“By the end of the discussion, you must respond to all students who have responded to your initial thread”

01:39:30 From Peter Cameron:         Yes! Thanks for these comments on instructor participation. My experience is that it is best to tread lightly in that regard, and have students respond to each other, rather than waiting for cues and clues from the instructor.

01:47:09 From alexandra pickett:     I do that too. Ice-breaking is very important for building trust and community

01:53:58 From taur orange:                FIT!

01:54:43 From Peter Cameron:         Hi Robert: is it possible in the discussion to simply upload the rubric you are using, rather than having to fuss around and edit the Blackboard template each assignment?

01:58:28 From Peter Cameron:         Okay, thanks…just have been using rubrics that I created and really like 🙂 and modify from time to time. Yes, I have rubrics, and steer people to them all the time. I just have not embedded directly in the discussion. Actually my structure is similar to Blackboard, but is reversed — goes from high to low (left to right)!

01:59:30 From Peter Cameron:         Yes, I use the rubric directly in grading and feedback.

02:08:45 From Peter Cameron:         I have used 3 – 4 per semester. I usually have a rigorous question to start, but then people do enjoy responding to each other. Good to have connection with one another. Pizza should not have pineapple on it, Gregg. Doesn’t go, I say. You want savory items with too much salt etc.

02:09:17 From alexandra pickett:     no pineapple on a pizza!  🙂

11:12:27 From The GB :             I stand with Alex on the pineapple issue.
