Joshua Purcell, MSN, RN, is a clinical assistant professor at SUNY Upstate Medical University. Joshua works with clinical students from partner SUNY institutions, as well as teaches courses in undergraduate and graduate programs in the College of Nursing. Joshua completed his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing at LeMoyne College. Previous to Upstate, he was a member of the faculty at St. Joseph’s College of Nursing and an adjunct faculty member with LeMoyne College.

I have been a nursing educator since 2018 and began teaching online when I joined SUNY Upstate in the Fall of 2021. Throughout my educational journey in teaching RN students, I have noticed the growing need for flexibility in students’ ability to complete assignments and participate in class. The online teaching environment does just that. As the current program director of the RN-BS program at Upstate’s College of Nursing I am actively seeking feedback from students and peers to help meet their needs in the ever-evolving world of healthcare. Creating solid instructional design and easy to follow online learning has led to many student successes in the program. I look forward to seeing where online education goes next and hope to continue to be a part of it’s growth!
