SUNY Online Teaching Ambassador 2021: Niagara – Deborah Sorrentino
Deborah Sorrentino is Professor and Coordinator of the Computer Science and Computer Information Systems programs at Niagara County Community College. She has thirty years of experience teaching in higher education and was awarded the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. She has been teaching online since the early days of the SUNY Learning Network (now SUNY Online) in 2001.
Having designed and taught five online courses, it has been a major focus of mine to ensure our Computer Information Systems program is offered entirely online. I am proud of our efforts to provide flexible scheduling with online instruction which has enabled many nontraditional students to obtain a degree in our program over the years.
Serving as a quality reviewer for online courses has afforded an opportunity to connect with peers and exchange ideas on how to best present information, provide resources, and encourage student engagement. I believe this experience has made me a better educator in both online and traditional settings.
I am incredibly excited about the current and future state of online education and the opportunities that it affords to all with a passion for learning.
