Project Outcomes

Cultivating inclusivity and diversity, 'Expanding Horizons' develops a comprehensive Open Educational Resource (OER) textbook, incorporating non-Western philosophies, philosophy of race, indigenous philosophies, philosophy of disability, environmental ethics, and feminist philosophy to enhance student success and promote economic equality within the State University of New York (SUNY) system.

This project transforms our co-edited sustainability education anthology (Palgrave, 2024) into an Open Access book linked with an interactive learning hub that empowers educators affiliated with the Mid-Hudson Teacher Center and beyond to make their sustainability education projects visible and shareable—adapting book case studies into actionable student learning projects.

Integrating AI into Geospatial Information Science and Technology (GIST) curriculums to enhance teaching on climate change, sustainability and human rights issues.

This project introduces Goal-Oriented AI Teaching Assistants, trained by faculty to provide personalized mentoring in higher education by supporting learning objectives, structuring tasks, adapting to faculty style, and enhancing student engagement, self-regulation, and academic success in online and hybrid environments.

SUNY Empire is piloting AI-powered Spanish translations for its BBA program, making learning more accessible for multilingual students. In partnership with SUNY Buffalo, the project also supports Spanish-language resources in nursing. The goal: expand equity and student success through smarter, culturally aware translation tools across SUNY.
