Project Abstract:

As SUNY has updated its general education requirements to include AI literacy, faculty across the system face challenges in integrating these technologies into their teaching. AI Cross-Campus Communities of Practice expands on a successful 2024-2025 pilot, which supported faculty in creating AI learning activities for students on six campuses. This year, the project will invite faculty from nine SUNY campuses to take part in an expanded range of approaches to pedagogy and AI. Participating faculty will earn stipends to engage in one of five themed learning communities: AI Learning Activities, Developing Chatbots, Assessment Redesign, AI and Writing Across the Disciplines, and Multimodal AI and Accessibility. The initiative promotes interdisciplinary collaboration and research-based pedagogy support by facilitating cohort meetings, expert-led discussions, and the development of public-facing course materials with an emphasis on ethical AI use and active learning. Ultimately, we aim to create scalable, inclusive resources that enhance AI literacy and pedagogical innovation across SUNY and beyond.
