This project will assemble an intercampus community of practice to transform writing pedagogy in the age of AI. Faculty and undergraduate students from the University at Buffalo and Buffalo State will collaborate to close the gap between writing pedagogy, student learning, and AI. Faculty participants will develop AI-oriented learning modules to help students in first-year writing courses. Then, a set of student investigators will conduct peer focus groups to better understand how students utilize AI in their writing processes. We will gather data on instructors’ experiences working with a community of practice, as well as students’ evolving conceptions about writing and the effectiveness of the learning modules. The assignments and learning modules collaboratively developed and refined for this project will be adapted for other writing courses that impact a wide and inclusive array of students. They will also be made available on the SUNY Open Access Repository.
