Project Abstract:

This initiative will create an adaptable, open educational framework for integrating AI literacy through metaliteracy across SUNY curricula. Building on the co-PI and collaborators' established expertise in metaliteracy and AI, the project will develop openly licensed resources that prepare learners to be both ethical producers and informed consumers of AI-generated content. By focusing on metaliteracy's learning domains (cognitive, affective, behavioral, and metacognitive) and learner roles, the framework will empower students to engage critically with AI while reinforcing responsible knowledge production. Deliverables include an OER toolkit with assessment rubrics, learning modules, and implementation guides readily adoptable across SUNY institutions. The framework will be piloted at Empire State University, SUNY Brockport, and the University at Buffalo, beginning with arts, humanities, and social science courses, and establishing a community of practice to share effective strategies for ethical AI integration.
