Project Abstract:

Technical drawing and 3D modeling are the important topics in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering Technology programs at Farmingdale State College. Students must know these topics before they continue in the programs. One of the challenges in teaching these topics is to deliver teaching materials to students because demonstration models are not always available. Students often need to share the models and have limited time to practice on the models. Accordingly, the PIs are proposing to introduce new demonstration models through augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) to enhance student learning in technical drawing and 3D modeling. In addition, the PIs will investigate the possibility of developing the first stackable micro credential in CAD for the college. The project not only will improve the student learning experience, it also teaches students how the new technologies can be applied in the engineering field and motivates students to achieve a better grade.
