Evaluating Geologic Mapping Tools for the Undergraduate Curriculum
Martha Growdon
Adirondack Community College
2012
Type of GrantIITG Tier One
Amount of Award:$10,000.00
- Mobile Learning
Pilot use of the first digital field-mapping evaluation, comparing available tablet computers and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in side-by-side field tests, to train students to produce new 1:24000-scale geologic maps of New York State (NYS) to investigate potential horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing.
Compared Google Nexus and iPad for geological field use, as well as a number of Apps.
Presentations Unplugged: Mobile Devices in the Classroom
Tom Blake
Binghamton University
2012
Type of GrantIITG Tier One
Amount of Award:$9,758.00
- Mobile Learning; Open Educational Resources (OER)
Pilot investigation of "anytime-anywhere" use of mobile devices in the classroom by students and faculty.
During the funding timeframe, significant challenges were encountered to enable objectives on an enterprise network. The PI offers other solutions through publications as this technology matures.
Giving/Getting Access to Scholarly and Instructional Material

Brockport
2012
Type of GrantIITG Tier Two
Amount of Award:$18,700.00
- Video Production
Creation of pre-laboratory learning modules for A&P students to assess the effects of using these modules to reduce face-to-face lab duration while maintaining learning outcomes, and to identify features to facilitate faculty adoption of this technology.
73% of over Anatomy & Physiology students from two courses (n=569) accessed pilot video lab prep content. There was no significant difference in test performance from those who accessed vs. those who did not.
Design and Testing of Laboratory Instruction Management System (LIMS)
Alexander Nazarenko
Buffalo State College
2012
Type of GrantIITG Tier One
Amount of Award:$10,000.00
Creation of a Laboratory Instruction Management System (LIMS) by implementation of electronic notebooks and computerizing data acquisition. Students will plan and document all aspects of an experiment; laboratory instructions will be incorporated into a notebook template and reports can be generated.
A poster presentation and faculty publication.
