This effort seeks to transition an emerging microcredential in Sustainable Engineering Leadership into a zero-cost microcredential through the implementation or generation of OER works. This effort will include generating engineering technical electives that use OER works in environmental and societal sustainability for students to apply what they have learned from the microcredential.
The microcredential will create an OER sequence of General Education courses that directly connect those topics to engineering problems through sustainability. Students will then complete a capstone course to learn how to mentor and teach those skills to high school or first year engineering design teams.
The goals of this effort will be (1) to provide engineering students with better soft skills and critical thinking skills that will enable them to succeed in industry (2) to increase K-12 recruitment and first-year retention through the mentoring component (3) to increase student engagement and success in General Education courses.
