SUNY Empire is launching a pilot project that uses artificial intelligence to translate course materials from English into Spanish for its Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program. By creating a custom glossary of business and academic terms, the project aims to make translation more accurate, clear, and culturally relevant for Spanish-speaking students. The project also supports SUNY Buffalo, where nursing faculty will use a similar approach to develop Spanish-language resources for students preparing to work with Spanish-speaking patients. The ultimate goal is to improve access and equity for multilingual learners, especially in online and adult-learning environments. Faculty and students will help test and improve the translated content, and the tools and lessons learned will be shared across SUNY. This project will show how machine translation—when used thoughtfully—can support meaningful learning experiences in more than one language.
