This project explores the application of Goal-Oriented AI Agents as Teaching Assistants (TAs) to enhance student mentoring and tutoring in higher education. Unlike AI systems designed for automated teaching, these AI-driven assistants will function as personalized mentors, supporting students in clarifying learning objectives, managing study progress, and receiving structured guidance based on faculty-driven knowledge bases.
Each AI TA will be specifically trained by faculty members, ensuring alignment with course materials, academic expectations, and the professor’s mentoring style. The AI agents will incorporate a dual task list management system, enabling efficient interaction between students and AI mentors by structuring learning objectives into manageable tasks while maintaining flexibility in learning pathways.
By integrating these AI-driven assistants into online and hybrid learning environments, this project will evaluate their effectiveness in enhancing student engagement, self-regulation, and academic success compared to conventional tutoring approaches.
