Project Abstract:

The Anatomic Structures at Risk APP is an interactive tool that teaches the anatomy of the hand and simplifies the evaluation of skin lacerations by identifying the potentially damaged anatomic structures. The learner first interacts with the APP by identifying the location of the laceration on the provided hand images. The APP then automatically lists the anatomic structures at risk for the identified injury. This list includes all potentially damaged tendons, nerves, arteries, veins, ligaments, joints, and bones. Next, the APP provides detailed anatomic pedagogy with text, images, and anatomic videos. With the support of additional images and videos the APP teaches the learner how to perform a detailed injury directed examination to verify the integrity of the potentially injured structures. With this interactive open-source APP, healthcare professionals and students can learn to confidently and accurately identify and evaluate hand injuries, ultimately improving patient outcomes.
