Overview Summary

The proposed pilot project involves creating videos documenting a cycle of literacy instructional coaching to support NYS literacy specialist preparation and to develop a scalable method for future instructional video creation for SUNY literacy graduate programs, with final resources hosted in the SUNY Open Access Repository.

Project Abstract

Instructional videos are established interventions to improve educational practices, including literacy intervention and coaching. However, COVID-19 has impacted the feasibility of in-school professional learning placements while simultaneously increasing statewide need for effective literacy leadership and instructional coaching. The proposed pilot project involves the creation of instructional videos documenting a cycle of literacy coaching to be shared openly across the SUNY network and New York state. Created materials will be evaluated by two professional boards: a Quality Control Board comprised of SUNY literacy researchers and a Literacy Specialist Board comprised of practicing NY literacy specialists. This proposed project will both test the process of creating these videos as well as build capacity for future instructional video creation to support literacy specialist programs across the 12+ literacy-focused graduate programs across the SUNY network, and the final resources will be accessible in the SUNY Open Access Repository (SOAR).
