Scott Goldschmidt
Scott Goldschmidt, Partner, Thompson Coburn, LLP

Scott Goldschmidt is an attorney in the higher education practice at Thompson Coburn, LLP. He is well-versed in navigating all types of day-to-day and long term legal demands facing colleges and universities, but has particular experience in the areas of discrimination law, privacy, student affairs, contract drafting and review, policy development, and implementing controls to mitigate risk. He also handles a wide variety of regulatory and transactional work for institutions of higher education. Scott has been an active member of the National Association of College and University Attorneys since 2012 and has served on a variety of association committees. Prior to joining Thompson Coburn, Scott was the Deputy General Counsel for The Catholic University of America. He also worked as a law clerk for the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of the General Counsel, was a research assistant for the Fifth Edition of The Law of Higher Education by William Kaplin and Barbara Lee, and served a City Year corps member in a Washington, D.C. public school.


Adam Haney
Adam Haney, Assistant Deputy General Counsel, SUNY Office of General Counsel

Adam Haney is the assistant deputy general counsel in the SUNY Office of General Counsel. Adam joined the State University of New York Office of General Counsel in early 2016. He is currently responsible for overseeing all legal matters for the SUNY Campuses at Empire State, Plattsburgh, and Purchase College. Prior to joining SUNY, Adam was an associate attorney at Lippes Mathias Wexler Friedman LLP where he specialized in commercial litigation and dispute resolution. Adam received his Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from the University at Buffalo School of Law in 2012 where he served as an Executive Publication Editor for the Buffalo Law Review. He graduated from New York University with a Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration in 2006 and received a Bachelor of Arts in Communication with high distinction, cum laude, from the University at Buffalo in 2004. He is admitted to practice law in the State of New York, the State of New Jersey, the U.S. District Courts for the Western, Southern, and Eastern Districts of New York and the District of New Jersey, and the U.S. Bankruptcy Courts for the Western District of New York and the District of New Jersey. Karen Chico Hurst has served as the University Registrar (SUNY University at Albany) since 2010.  Throughout her 29 year career in higher education, Karen has served at three institutions, holding positions as Associate Director for Administration – University in the High School Program, Associate Registrar, Assistant Registrar, Assistant to the President for Institutional Research, and Student Records Coordinator. Karen is a graduate of SUNY Plattsburgh (BS) and Russell Sage College (MBA). Karen works as a collaborative partner with all areas of the University, and SUNY, to continually assess policies, processes, and service delivery to ensure the highest quality experience for all constituents. Karen has received numerous awards for her work emphasizing leadership and service, and is a member of the American Association for Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO), the Middle States Association of Collegiate Registrars and Officers of Admission (MSACROA), the SUNY Registrar’s Association (SUNYRA), and the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA).  Karen also serves on the Donate Life NYS Advisory Board and works with the Center for Donation and Transplant to promote organ donation in NYS.
