Mathematics

Lynae Warren, Center for Graduate Studies, SUNY Empire State College writes:

“The study of sustainability using mathematics is intended to explore ways to effectively bring about balance and slow the effects of climate change and other unsustainable practices in our world. Framing this study is the idea that learners will pose questions about ways in which local and global decision-making can support sustainability. In this project-based study, as questions are framed and explored, data will be gathered about current practices in order to inform planning and decision-making about what direction should be taken to effectively support sustainability. Participants will identify a local project that might be undertaken in order to support sustainability. Data will be gathered and mathematical models will be used to describe the impact of project implementation. Finally, a proposed model will be put forth to local interested parties in order to encourage support for participation in the project.”
