Anant Deshpande, Center for Distance Learning, SUNY Empire State College writes:
“The academic area will help student develop understanding of environmental impacts resulting from manufacturing operations. The objective of the course is to provide tools for students to understand the constantly changing manufacturing sector and develop an understanding of skills required to evaluate and enhance the sustainability of manufacturing operations. This course will help students further understand the core concepts of industrial practices and help them effectively design sustainable operations. Topics will specifically cover areas such as lean manufacturing, green warehousing and inventory management, green purchasing, design for manufacture, sustainable material selection, life cycle assessment and maintenance of environmental and quality standards. Students will also learn to evaluate the decision making skills to minimize the impact of manufacturing on environment and will develop effective skills to practice and measure continuous improvement processes using sustainability tools and techniques.”
