{"id":231,"date":"2010-06-08T18:08:46","date_gmt":"2010-06-09T00:08:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/slneducation.edublogs.org\/?p=231"},"modified":"2020-11-30T11:16:27","modified_gmt":"2020-11-30T17:16:27","slug":"eden-2010-media-inspirations-for-learning-what-makes-an-impact","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/online.suny.edu\/onlineteaching\/2010\/06\/08\/eden-2010-media-inspirations-for-learning-what-makes-an-impact\/","title":{"rendered":"EDEN 2010: Media Inspirations for Learning: what makes an impact?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I arrived in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/alexandrapickett\/sets\/72157624229803392\/show\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Valencia, Spain at dawn today<\/a> for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eden-online.org\/eden.php?menuId=485\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">EDEN 2010 annual conference<\/a>.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The questions posed as<a href=\"http:\/\/www.eden-online.org\/eden.php?menuId=488\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> scope for the conference<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eden-online.org\/eden.php?menuId=494\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">conference themes<\/a> are of particular interest and seek to address these questions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Where do new media take us as educators?\n<ul>\n<li>What in the end is their suitability for education?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>For teachers and learners, what is the value of being active in new media?\n<ul>\n<li>Having a presence on Twitter?<\/li>\n<li>Being an active blogger?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>What is the validity of knowledge in Web 2.0\n<ul>\n<li>How can we measure recognition and achievement?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>How do media portray the changing open and distance learning practice?<\/li>\n<li>How can we control the potential of media to ensure that they work for all?<\/li>\n<li>How all is this affecting the modes of knowledge organisation?<\/li>\n<li>With the convergence of media, how are the major issues of learning mirrored in the \u201ctraditional\u201d media channels, in TV, newspapers and journals?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I am thrilled to have the opportunity to be here for this conference on this topic and to visit Valencia again. I am really looking forward to the presentations, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eden-online.org\/eden.php?menuId=497\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">keynote presentations<\/a> (especially seeing George Siemens again), and to sharing a <a href=\"http:\/\/prezi.com\/yyzcr9_btox6\/teaching-learning-in-the-cloud\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">demonstration of my online course<\/a> (on Friday, June 11th) that pushes learning outside the boundaries of the traditional online course management system and into the social web.<\/p>\n<p>Starting on Thursday several of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eden-online.org\/eden.php?menuId=509\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">keynotes will be broadcast live<\/a>, giving you the opportunity to join me virtually here in Valencia.
