She leveraged a tool called <a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.genspark.ai\/\">Genspark<\/a> that you might want to check out. It also gives us an opportunity to look ahead to the work we are collectively shaping for the coming year.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>OSCQR: Leading Global Standards in Online Course Quality<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">OSCQR continues to be one of the most visible indicators of SUNY\u2019s leadership in online course quality. Over the past year, we\u2019ve seen:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li><strong>Close to 19K active OSCQR website users<\/strong>,<\/li>\n<li><strong>Almost 3k all time webinar attendees<\/strong>, and<\/li>\n<li><strong>410 interactive rubric downloads<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div style=\"float: left; width: 600px; max-width: 100%; margin: 0 1.5em 1em 0; vertical-align: top;\">\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: none; display: block;\" src=\"https:\/\/online.suny.edu\/onlineteaching\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/SUNY-Online-Impact-Report-24-25.pdf#toolbar=1&amp;navpanes=0&amp;scrollbar=1\" width=\"100%\" height=\"900\"><br \/>\n<\/iframe><\/p>\n<div style=\"margin-top: 8px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/online.suny.edu\/onlineteaching\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/SUNY-Online-Impact-Report-24-25.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><br \/>\n<em>Open the Full SUNY Online Impact Report in a New Tab.<\/em><\/a><em> or click on the infographic to scroll through all pages.<\/em><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Download data show that this year OSCQR has reached <strong>112 countries across 6 continents<\/strong>, with the United States, Canada, Hong Kong, Ethiopia, and Germany representing our top areas of engagement.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We also awarded <strong>14 official OSCQR certifications<\/strong>, which provide faculty, instructional designers, and campus teams with nationally recognized recognition of their OSCQR review and refresh skills.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I want to highlight the quote from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/april-higgins-47a598206\/\">April Higgins<\/a>,\u00a0Instructional Designer at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dtcc.edu\/\">Delaware Technical Community College<\/a>, who shared that her OSCQR certification offered <em>\u201ca nationally recognized, evidence-based credential and practical tools to support online faculty and improve online learner experiences.\u201d<\/em> That\u2019s at the heart of this work\u2014supporting all of you who support effective and efficient online learner experiences.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>OSCQR Consultations &amp; Engagement<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This year, consultations grew significantly. Across SUNY campuses, I engaged in <strong>52 consultations<\/strong>, representing <strong>24 SUNY campuses<\/strong>. Topics ranged from OSCQR and certifications to AI in instruction, RSI, DEI considerations, badging, the DLE, and general online teaching scholarship.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Beyond SUNY, there were <strong>35 national and international consultations<\/strong>, including work with universities in Guatemala, Germany, and South Africa. These conversations show that the work we are doing here in SUNY is informing global conversations about online teaching, quality, and emerging technologies.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Websites &amp; Digital Presence<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our three core websites continue to grow in reach and importance:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/online.suny.edu\/onlineteaching\/\"><strong>SUNY Online Teaching site<\/strong> <\/a>had <strong>5,887 active users<\/strong> across <strong>102 countries <\/strong>this year .<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/online.suny.edu\/interested\/\"><strong>Interested in Teaching Online<\/strong><\/a> site had <strong>226 active users<\/strong>, with certifications awarded.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>Faculty Readiness site<\/strong> is temporarily offline as we prepare a full redesign for an Academic Year 2025\u201326 relaunch.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We\u2019re also seeing concentrated activity in New York State, as expected, but strong engagement from Virginia, California, Texas, and Washington as well.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This tells us that SUNY continues to be a resource far beyond our borders\u2014another sign of the reputation this community has built.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>SUNY Online Summit 2025<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<a href=\"https:\/\/online.suny.edu\/summit\/\"> 26th Annual SUNY Online Summit<\/a> brought together <strong>510 participants<\/strong> from <strong>50 SUNY campuses<\/strong>, <strong>9 countries<\/strong>, and <strong>37 U.S. states<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Over 90% of attendees reported that the Summit met their expectations. The event continues to serve not only as a gathering for learning, but as a year-round resource through the video archive and curated playlists.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I appreciate John Locke\u2019s reflection that these archives \u201csupport year-round online faculty learning\u201d\u2014a reminder that the Summit is one of SUNY Online\u2019s most enduring tools for networking and professional engagement among the various online practitioners in our community.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Community Activities &amp; Professional Development<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Across the year, the SUNY Online Teaching community engaged in:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li><strong>15 webinars<\/strong>, with average attendance between 50 and 57 people, with <strong>357 total attendees<\/strong>,<\/li>\n<li>There were<strong> 8 OSCQR webinar sessions<\/strong> with <strong>587 participants<\/strong>,<\/li>\n<li>We have<strong> 845 SUNY Online Teaching <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/@sunyonlineteaching\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">YouTube<\/a> channel subscribers<\/strong> and can track more than <strong>1,100 watch hours<\/strong>, and<\/li>\n<li>A combined <strong>1,041 members<\/strong> across the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/oscqr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">online teaching networking group<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/oscqr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">OSCQR user group<\/a>, and the internal to SUNY Viva Engage group.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These numbers reflect a strong and growing community of practice. Every meeting, webinar, event, and shared resource help strengthen online teaching across the system.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Awards &amp; Recognition<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This year\u2019s recognition programs allowed us to celebrate the many people across SUNY advancing high-quality online teaching.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We saw strong participation in the <a href=\"https:\/\/online.suny.edu\/suny-effective-practices-awards-program\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Effective Online Practices awards<\/strong>,<\/a> and for the first time, launched the <a href=\"https:\/\/oscqr.suny.edu\/awards\/oscqr-awards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>OSCQR Awards<\/strong><\/a>, recognizing individual, program-level, and institutional excellence.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We also honored <strong>32 Online Teaching Ambassadors<\/strong>, representing 16 campuses. These educators demonstrate the creativity, innovation, and learner-centered approaches that make SUNY a leader in online education.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>OSCQR Awards Excellence: Inaugural Honorees<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our i<a href=\"https:\/\/oscqr.suny.edu\/awards\/2025-awardees\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">naugural OSCQR Award recipients<\/a> demonstrate how thoughtfully integrating OSCQR can elevate online course design and improve online learner engagement.<\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>At <strong>Delaware Tech<\/strong>, April Higgins helped increase faculty adoption of quality online course standards.<\/li>\n<li>At <strong>SUNY Potsdam<\/strong>, Dr. Karen Caldwell embedded OSCQR program-wide, supporting consistency in design and professional development for her faculty and graduate students.<\/li>\n<li>At <strong>SUNY Adirondack<\/strong>, \u00a0Doris Ostrander incorporated OSCQR into their institutional culture through a peer review and continuous improvement initiative.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Their work reflects how the rubric can support meaningful, sustained change.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Faculty Support &amp; Services<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SUNY Online Teaching continues to provide direct campus support through our <a href=\"https:\/\/online.suny.edu\/onlineteaching\/engage\/courseobservationprogram\/\">Service-Level Agreement offerings<\/a>, which include new faculty development and consultations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The FIT case study in growth is especially powerful. That\u2019s exactly the kind of partnership that demonstrates the impact of this work.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/online.suny.edu\/onlineteaching\/engage\/courseobservationprogram\/\"><strong>Courses for Observation program<\/strong><\/a> was launched in Brightspace showcasing exemplary course models in the SUNY DLE, helping faculty and instructional designers see examples and possibilities in Brightspace, the use of our DLE templates, and a variety of high-quality course designs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our OSCQR-aligned templates, webinars, showcases, direct faculty supports and consultations support campus efforts to ensure that online learners experience clarity, consistency, and thoughtful design.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Research, Collaboration &amp; DEI Leadership<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.notion.so\/dei-annotations\/Practices-Organized-by-Rubric-0d17702e364246f68066fb4c25930776\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DEI4All project<\/a> continues to advance SUNY\u2019s leadership in integrating inclusive online teaching practices into OSCQR and the broader ecosystem of online teaching and learning.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This year:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>We continued the editorial process based on the original work with <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/view\/onlinecoursequality\/equity-collaborative?authuser=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>66 institutions and 90 individual<\/strong> to build a set of 40 online inclusive teaching practice annotations for online course design<\/a> across all major online course quality rubrics. 20 of these practices are in final stages of editing.<\/li>\n<li>SUNY campus individuals have contributed to more than <strong>50% of all the drafted annotations<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition to the inclusive online teaching practices, research and collaboration are deeply woven into the SUNY Online Teaching ecosystem.<\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>We promoted and supported national research including the <a href=\"https:\/\/library.educause.edu\/resources\/2025\/8\/chloe-10-online-learning-at-a-tipping-point\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CHLOE 10 report<\/a> on growth, competition, and AI in online higher education, and contributed to several research and dissertation projects\u2014one of which centered on resilience among graduate student parents, another from ASU on AI, and yet another focused on distance learning leaders.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>National &amp; International Recognition<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SUNY\u2019s leadership is also reflected in national recognition.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We received the <a href=\"https:\/\/wcet.wiche.edu\/frontiers\/2024\/09\/26\/enhancing-global-virtual-learning-suny-coiloscqr-standards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>2024 WCET WOW Award<\/strong> <\/a>for the COIL + OSCQR standards project, highlighting SUNY\u2019s role in advancing global-quality frameworks. <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/pEVTwug7TiI?si=aW25Lrse-s1MSXSz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Video<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This year also included invitations to advisory boards, international keynotes, national presentations, and a feature on <a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/episode\/1z9we8BMCBdQ4WGwnR8aWO\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ASU\u2019s <em>Futures in Digital Learning<\/em><\/a>\u00a0podcast focused on <a href=\"https:\/\/online.suny.edu\/onlineteaching\/online-competency-development\/badges-and-certificates\/\">SUNY\u2019s award-winning and pioneering badging ecosystem<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These recognitions are really acknowledgements of the work that all of you have contributed to\u2014and represent our collective reputation for leading, sharing, and innovating in online teaching and learning.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Impact Summary &amp; Future Vision<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To close, I want to return to the bigger picture.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Across the SUNY Online Teaching ecosystem, we are serving nearly <strong>19,000 OSCQR users<\/strong>, <strong>1,000+ community members<\/strong>, and a global audience from <strong>112 countries<\/strong>. We have supported <strong>510 Summit participants<\/strong>, issued <strong>2,410 digital badges<\/strong>, and facilitated <strong>87 consultations<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This work reflects the collective commitment of our SUNY community to advancing excellence in online education.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Looking Ahead \u2014 Our Focus for Next Year<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As we look toward the coming year, a few focus areas stand out:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>We will be updating all SUNY Online Teaching resources for <strong>accessibility and usability<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>A full <strong>website review and redesign<\/strong> for clarity, updating and navigation<\/li>\n<li>A review and refresh of <strong>OSCQR\u2019s accessibility standards <\/strong>leading toward a new version of OSCQR.<\/li>\n<li>Incorporating <strong>inclusive online teaching practices<\/strong> into OSCQR 5.0 as part of the DEI4All project<\/li>\n<li>AI and mobile standards review and inclusion in the new OSCQR version.<\/li>\n<li>Promoting the full range of SOT <strong>supports and services<\/strong>, including SLA services, \u00a0and programs \u2013 mentoring course reviewers, awards, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Promoting and Expanding <strong>OSCQR certifications<\/strong> among our SUNY faculty and IDs.<\/li>\n<li>Exploring a system-wide initiative to strengthen <strong>online STEM faculty development<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These are our proposed areas of focus and opportunities for the coming year, and represent areas where collaboration across the system can continue to make a difference for online faculty and learners. We invite your input and your contributions to this work.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>\u2b50<\/strong><strong> A Gentle Call to Action<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As we move into the next cycle of this work, I invite all of us\u2014across every campus, role, and modality\u2014to stay connected, share what we\u2019re learning, and continue contributing to the rich ecosystem we\u2019ve built together.
