Diane Riegal<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Diane Riegal<\/strong> is a Professor within the Catskill Hospitality Institute at <\/span>SUNY Sullivan. She has worked in academia for 25+ years and was part of <\/span>one of the first cohorts to train for the online delivery of courses within <\/span>the SUNY Learning Network (now SUNY Online). She currently teaches a <\/span>variety of business management courses and has developed numerous courses <\/span>for online delivery. Her creativity and passion for teaching, as well as <\/span>her commitment of service to the community, has earned her the following <\/span>recognitions: <\/span>SUNY Chancellor\u2019s Award for Excellence in Teaching, A<\/span>ccreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) <\/span>Region 1 Teaching Excellence Award, <\/span>Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) <\/span>International Teaching Excellence Award, <\/span>Business & Professional Women honoree (Sullivan County Democrat), <\/span>Distinguished Service Award by the Professional Women of Sullivan <\/span>County, <\/span>SUNY Sullivan Andrew Schwarz Alumni Award, and <\/span>SUNY Sullivan Foundation \u201cWomen Who Make a Difference\u201d <\/span>Distinguished Alumni.<\/span><\/p>\n

I feel fortunate to have been a part of online learning in its infancy. I <\/span>feel equally as fortunate to be a part of SUNY Online \u2026 a leader in online <\/span>education. Online educators have the unique opportunity to richly engage <\/span>with students in an environment they understand and feel comfortable in \u2013 <\/span>the digital environment. I have learned so much over the years \u2026 what <\/span>works, and what does not work\u2026.and more importantly, the critical role <\/span>online education plays in reaching those who might not otherwise be able to <\/span>attend college in a physical setting. Online education offers students the <\/span>flexibility to attend classes around their schedules and presents a viable <\/span>pathway for them to reach their educational goals. I can speak from <\/span>experience that this opportunity can change the trajectory of a student\u2019s <\/span>life. I was a returning adult when I began my online MBA degree program. I <\/span>juggled 2 jobs, 3 children and all the demands of family life while <\/span>obtaining my degree fully online. Can you say, “full plate”? Had it not <\/span>been for an online degree program, I probably would not have been able to <\/span>obtain my graduate degree. Through that experience, I developed a great <\/span>appreciation for online education and the opportunities and impact it can <\/span>make to transform lives.
