Call for Submissions: SUNY FACT2 Experiential Learning Champion Playbook

The SUNY FACT2 Task Group on Experiential Learning invites campuses across the SUNY system to contribute to a dynamic Experiential Learning Playbook. This initiative aims to showcase innovative practices, tools, and frameworks that make high-impact experiential learning accessible to all students, supporting pathways from curriculum to career.

About the Playbook

The Playbook will serve as a digital resource, featuring “plays” that highlight how experiential learning is being integrated into courses, programs, and campus initiatives. These submissions will celebrate the diversity of approaches across SUNY, offering actionable insights and models that can be adapted by other institutions to enhance student engagement, equity, and impact.

Selected submissions will also be featured in a Spring 2025 Webinar Series, with opportunities for individual or panel presentations grouped thematically.

Submission Guidelines

We welcome submissions from faculty, staff, and campus leaders that address innovative and impactful experiential learning initiatives. Submissions should include:

  1. Overview: A general description of the initiative, including its purpose and context.
  2. Case Study: A detailed example illustrating how the initiative was implemented and its outcomes.
    • Equity and Access: How the initiative addresses equity and ensures access for diverse student populations.
  3. Impacts: Share any assessment, impact, or desired outcomes of this approach.
  4. Adaptability: Guidance for how the approach can be tailored to other campuses, special student populations, or contexts.
  5. Additional Resources: Any tools, frameworks, or materials that support design and implementation. For each resource shared please include a descriptive title and a brief 1 sentence description.

Suggested Topics

Submissions may focus on (but are not limited to) the following areas:

  • Integrating experiential learning with UN Sustainable Development Goals or Wicked Problems.
  • Designing experiential learning frameworks like Project-Based Learning, COIL, or Service Learning.
  • Creating a campus culture that values experiential learning through partnerships, policies, or strategic priorities.
  • Connecting experiential learning to career readiness, community engagement, or sustainability goals.
  • Showcasing equity-driven initiatives that bridge access gaps for underrepresented students.
  • Measuring the impact of experiential learning using data-centric approaches.
  • Programs that were co-designed with students.
  • Don’t see your idea on the list, submit it

Equity and Access Checklist

Highlighting equity and access in your submission is highly encouraged. Feel free to share how your experiential learning “play” addressed equity or access gaps. Here are some items to consider:

  • Student populations: How does your play ensure equitable access to the program.
  • Disaggreated Data: Share disaggregated data that may highlight impact on diverse student populations.
  • Potential Barriers: What potential barriers might students have to participate and what were the solutions you came up with. Examples: Student transportation, Access to technology
  • Fiscal concerns: Cost of programs, funding.
  • Academic and professional development: Was there sufficient training and preparation for students prior to engaging in the experiential learning. 

Submission Process

Each submission should be concise (typically less than 1,000 words) and include all required sections.

Sample Plays

As we move into the 2nd round of submissions to the Playbook, please note the format and style of currently published submissions. Each submissions starts with a piece of generalizable advice that could be applicable across multiple disciplines and multiple campuses.

That overview is then followed by a case study from your institution that goes into more detail and gives some specifics of what this looks like in your context.

Each play ends with an adaptability section, some key considerations that you think that someone who is inspired by your play should take into context as they think about bringing it into their unique circumstances.
